Description: Job Description:SummaryAssists with library media activities and serves as primary assistant for the Russellville READs 2.0 Bookmobile, including the processing and shelving of library materials and assisting students and staff in the access of library materials.Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Organizes and maintains the routine operation of a school library media center/Russellville READs Bookmobile.
  • Supports up to 15 hours of additional library hours of service each month and/or during other non-traditional hours of operation, e.g., after school, weekends, school breaks, summer months (June and July), after school bookmobile operations, etc.
  • Receives, processes, circulates, and shelves print and non-print materials.
  • Assists students in learning basic information skills including the use of the library catalog and reference sources.
  • Assists students and teachers in locating and selecting appropriate materials.
  • Assists students with special class projects or conduct story-time as required.
  • Inputs data to computerize catalog.
  • Inspects books and periodicals for damage and performs repairs as necessary.
  • Maintains routine records and files related to library activities including circulation of books, monies collected, lost materials and assists in inventory activities as required.
  • Maintains the library and bookmobile in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Assists in maintaining the discipline of students.
  • Support community outreach activities related to RRs. 2.0 literacy activities.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge & AbilitiesKnowledge of:

  • Methods, practices, terminology, and procedures used in a library.
  • Basic record keeping techniques.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

Ability to:

  • Assist with library/bookmobile activities.
  • Process and shelve library materials and assist students and staff in the selection of library materials.
  • Learn the operation, policies, procedures, and methods of an assigned library/bookmobile.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide quickly and accurately.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Communicate effectively with children and adults.
  • Maintain routine records as assigned.
  • File alphabetically and numerically with speed and accuracy.
  • Utilize materials for marking, mending, or protecting library materials.
  • Operate office equipment including typewriter and copier as required.

  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, close/distance vision, and hearing.

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, and push or pull weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires a high level of physical endurance to meet the demands of extended workdays (coverage of building activities and extra-curricular activities, etc.).
  • Requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.

  • The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the workday.
  • Expanded work hours will require the employee to work flexible hours according to the schedule of events for the library media center and RRs Bookmobile, including afterschool hours, evenings, and weekends.

Education and/or Experiences

  • Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate, or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law
