Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry education or related field. Proven experience as a science education teacher or relevant role.Supervisor: District PrincipalSalary: Per BTU AgreementOverview: Responsible for teaching Chemistry and other general science courses with proven results in student learning. The Teacher will plan, prepare, and teach well developed culturally responsive lessons which enthuse and inspire students, and promote an exciting rigorous learning environment. The Teacher will provide student services to those students enrolled, ensuring the effective completion of the curriculum that they are responsible for. This person will develop creative forms of instruction to meet the needs of a diverse rural student population, while establishing and enforcing non-instructional duties throughout the educational process. The teacher will work within a diverse environment of dynamic learners. The position will require a high degree of creativity, cultural awareness and problem-solving capabilities.Goal: To be committed to helping students achieve commencement level education with a primary emphasis on learning experiences which address the NYS Common Core and applicable curriculum.Foundation/Qualities:
- A broad knowledge of science education curriculum and a solid foundation in science studies
- Thorough understanding and up to date knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards for elementary education
- Knowledge of current science topics and methodologies
- Ability to implement school procedures and policies

- Training in behavioral analysis and modification and experience working with children

Responsibilities/Duties:
- Ensure that all science education teaching is to the New York State Learning Standards, National Standards, Common Core Learning Standards, and the Barker Central School Curriculum.
- Maintain a safe environment and be in compliance with District insurance policy
- Make certain the BCS is compliant with all rules and regulations set forth by the Commissioner of Education and the New York State Education Department
- Prepare and grade coursework and assignments based upon district-adopted curriculum
- Assess student’s skills, learning needs/requirements and set goals for effective instruction plans and ability to modify curriculum as needed on basic subjects using evidence-based techniques such as multisensory learning, instruction for students of diverse backgrounds, interests, and learning needs in an inclusive settings
- Establish clear expectations and objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those to students
- Ability to use different technologies and programs effectively to ensure the ability to integrate suitable use of such
- Select reading, writing, math, and other curriculum-development materials, including textbooks, in accordance with local and state guidelines
- Prepare students for standardized tests, working within the parameters of state and local requirements, and provide diagnostic feedback
- Ability to manage classrooms and implement school procedures with diverse students and different learning abilities
- Meet one-on-one with students to improve performance and address behavioral issues
- Introduce STEAM-related topics
- Incorporate new models of the inclusive science classroom
- Model acceptable social behaviors
- Ability to utilize positive reinforcement and behavior modification and instruction techniques to develop positive changes in your students’ academic and social development.
- Adapt learning materials to students’ needs, look for engaging activities and resources that can be easily modified to each child’s educational requirements.
- Communicate, collaborate, and help coordinate with administration, school counselors, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech therapists, parents and other staff/resources matters that might impede students’ progress in order to provide a more effective learning environment for students, especially special need students, to improve their potential and development, including but not limited to implementation of intervention plans and Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs).
- Prepare students for transition to the next level of instruction
- Consults with parents/guardians:
- Acts as a resource for information with regard to student’s progress, potential problems, and/or transition to the next grade
- Facilitate conferences with them
- Is available for phone calls.
- Works with administration to report child abuse and follows up as needed.
- Ability to take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities, and keep accurate records in compliance with relevant laws, policies and regulations.
- Flexibility in completing daily tasks.
- Experience in the use of technology, communications, and information systems to support student learning.
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
- Organize and label materials, and display students’ work.
- Participates as a member in student-related, school-based committees and staff meetings
- Continuous professional development.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Superintendent or designee.
